LOUISBURG -- Franklin County will have a second primary as all three eligible school board candidates have requested a runoff.
Noon Thursday, June 2, 2022, was the deadline to file a written request for a runoff and District 3's Elizabeth Keith (Democrat), District 5's Christopher Perry (GOP), right photo above, and District 7's Erin Patterson Reid (GOP), left photo above, -- the second highest vote getters -- all had done so.
District 3's Steven Gupton (Dem), District 5's Tammy Raynor Petrosillo (Dem) and District 7's Paige Sayles (Dem) all received the most votes during the May 17 primary.
Each race had three candidates. General Statutes required school board members receive 50 percent of the vote and, since none did, the second highest vote getter could request a runoff.
The second primary will only feature two candidates for each race and its winner take all.
The second primary date is scheduled for July 26.
