Sidney,
I have read with great interest the current political situation in Franklin County. I write you as a concerned citizen and one that has been severely affected by your unilateral action.
On April 5, 2020, you proclaimed a "Public Safety Curfew" for Franklin County. What seems clear is that no other commissioners had knowledge of this and in a head-scratching move, neither did our local communities. However, that's not the biggest issue.
When you rushed to put this into place, you left out a key provision that makes it illegal to care for another person. Per the Order, " shall not be or travel upon any public street, alley or roadway or upon public property, unless in search of medical assistance, food or other commodity or service necessary to sustain the well-being of him/herself or his/her family". The key piece present here is family, but that leaves thousands of Franklin County residents out in the cold.
I have no family. I also have a disabling condition. If I have an issue after 9 p.m. and cannot fend for myself, I would have to ask someone to break your law to care for me. What kind of caring is this? Since when do we make it illegal to care for our neighbors?
I understand you have not responded to other requests and I don't anticipate you will in this instance, either. I would hope that you respect your office more than that.
My late father was an elected official who took his job seriously. He spent hours on the phone and meeting with constituents to hear their concerns and took every single one, even the most ridiculous, seriously. I hope you take your job seriously, as well.
Sincerely,
Kevin J. Hornaday
