Chuck Stires Announces Candidacy
For Senate District 7
Youngsville, NC; February 25, 2008:
Today, Franklin County businessman Chuck Stires announced his candidacy to become the State Senator from NC District Seven."Again, in response to the encouragement of my family, neighbors, and so many others from around the four counties who supported me in 2006, I am announcing my candidacy for the NC Senate," said Chuck Stires in his announcement to run for the NC senate seat held by incumbent Doug Berger.
"In my first effort to run for public office in 2006, I received nearly 40% of the vote," Stires continued. "Clearly, my message was heard. It will be heard even more loudly in 2008 when the people of this senate district realize that many of the critical issues confronting us, today, are the same issues that faced us in 2006 and back in 2004 when Doug Berger first won his senate seat. With his own party in leadership that entire time, he was unable to get the job done. This district requires an effective state senator.
"The people of this district have not shared in the economic growth enjoyed by so many other areas of our state. We haven’t seen the new jobs. Too many of our children remain trapped in low-performing schools. We continue to face obstacles to more affordable and accessible healthcare. There is more that can be done at the state and local level to curb the impact of illegal immigration. These issues and more remain on the ‘to do’ list, but our current state senator, and his senate leadership imposed hundreds of millions in new and increased taxes and fees upon the hard-working families of North Carolina.
"We are in a new economy. We can no longer afford to play catch-up. We can no longer afford two more years of expensive, old, tired, failed big government solutions that aren’t getting the job done.
"This district can no longer afford a state senator whose approach is not working and whose gauge of success is not in actual results, but in how much taxpayer money is being spent. Our children and grandchildren are looking to us. It’s time for new thinking and new solutions. No more excuses. It’s time for us to be accountable even when our current legislators in Raleigh are not.
"We can do this. My name is Chuck Stires. I am
asking for your support."
