Youngsville, NC;  March 3, 2006:   Franklin County businessman Chuck Stires announced his candidacy to become the State Senator from NC District  Seven.

"We cannot allow another two years go by without a voice in Raleigh speaking on behalf of the people of this district," said Chuck Stires, Republican candidate for the North Carolina Senate representing Vance, Granville, Warren and  Franklin Counties. "Our elected voice in Raleigh refused to protect our citizens from crippling tax increases and failed to speak out on critical issues important to our families and communities. The citizens of our district deserve better."

"The lack of economic and job growth hits our district particularly hard," Stires continued. "With the full support of our current state senator, the budgets from the last two years have produced $1.5 billion in new taxes and fees to be imposed on our citizens at EVERY income level. Huge increases in taxes and spending are not the kind of help the hard working families of this district were looking for," Stires went on, "but that's what they got."

"I am a business owner. I know what it's like to meet a payroll. I know, first hand, how the high costs of taxes, fees and regulation impact a company's ability to grow and provide more jobs and higher wages. Unfortunately, over the last two years, North Carolina has continued to be the highest priced state to operate a business in the southeast. We must be more competitive."

Chuck Stires has been married for 40 years. He's the father of three children and is an elder in his church. "I see the family as a major strength in our society and believe the world is losing its understanding of the purpose of traditional marriage and the value of children," Stires said. "Polls consistently show that 70% of North Carolinians want traditional family values fully protected. Yet our current senator and the Democrats in control continue to refuse to bring the Defense of Marriage Amendment to the senate floor for a vote. I will vigorously defend traditional marriage by working to unite my colleagues from both parties to pass the Defense of Marriage Constitutional Amendment."

"For the last two years there has been no voice from our district fighting in Raleigh to improve student performance and ensure every student has a full range of educational opportunities. I will work tirelessly toward ensuring our schools provide our students with the education and training necessary to fill the wide variety of job opportunities that will open from my leadership in bringing economic growth to our district. No option should be off limits for discussion. Our goal is simple; provide a safe, high-quality learning environment for our children, and a productive, satisfying teaching environment for our educators."

"We cannot allow another two years to be squandered." Senate Candidate Stires continued. “I will commit to working toward bringing state spending back under control and return the "trust" in our state trust funds. I will seek every opportunity to reduce or repeal the level of taxation to lessen the burden on our families and improve the economic climate for growth in our state."

"After suffering the years of local corruption and scandal, and two years of inaction by our current senator, the citizens of Franklin, Granville, Vance and Warren Counties cannot allow another two years to be squandered from the lack of a voice, the lack of experience, and the lack of leadership on their behalf. I will provide that voice, that experience, and that leadership in the North Carolina Senate."
