Chuck Stires, left, looks on as Harold Frazier receives
Conservative
Pioneer Certificate for his District 7 run in 2004
which opened the door for a Republican to run in 2006.
Vance County GOP Chairman Phil Burnette presented the award to Frazier
at the Vance GOP County Convention March 9, 2006.
Stires Invades Berger's Territory
Both live in Youngsville but there's
nothing else similar about them as was demonstrated at the March 9 Vance County
Republican Party Convention.
Chuck Stires, the Republican candidate, is challenging liberal Democrat state
Sen. Doug Berger for the the District 7 seat which includes Franklin, Granville,
Vance and Warren counties. And if Berger thinks Vance County is his territory he
had better think again, because Stires plans to make inroads throughout his
campaign.
Here are some highlights of Chuck Stires at the Vance County GOP convention:
The family is
the source of strength in any society. Marriage is defined as the union of
one man and one woman and I will vote for passage of the *Defense of Marriage
Amendment in January 2007. I will introduce legislation to remove the
adjustable gasoline tax and to reduce the overall tax rate (individual,
corporate, sales). I will introduce legislation to require reporting and
transparency in the lottery commission and to increase the percent allocated to
schools in addition to already budgeted educational allocations. I will ensure
all educational opportunities are available for all students and parents.
Stires said that a conservative vote in November will provide the type of
government needed -- not what conservatives are getting now.
Also in attendance at the convention were former Franklin GOP Chairman Larry
Norman, 2nd District congressional candidate Dan Mansell and 2nd District Vice
Chairman Joseph Avery.

*Berger refused to sign the 2004 Marriage Amendment. Berger was also endorsed by
a radical gay lesbian group that year which opposes the Marriage Amendment.
