'I Know I Can Beat Lucy
Allen'
Can anyone say what Democratic state Rep.
Lucy Allen has done for Franklin County?
Well?
Okay, we're still waiting.
Oh yeah, Allen did vote for $1.5 billion in pork barrel spending including
$400,000 for a teapot museum in Sparta. She also has not asked for Democratic
House Speaker Jim Black, who has been involved in scandals, to resign from
his post. And Allen has never disliked a tax increase including raising our
license tags from $20 to $28.
"I know I can beat Lucy Allen," said businessman Dave Harker. He told fellow
Republicans at the March 9 Franklin County Republican Party meeting that change
is needed in the 49th District which includes Franklin, Halifax and Nash
counties.
Harker said he will use a "common sense approach" and be a voice for Franklin
County.
Unlike Allen, who has promised but not delivered, Harker said getting Highway
401 is a "top priority" of his. He pointed out that the only thing Allen has
done is have a blinking light installed on Pocomoke Road. And don't forget what
Asher Johnson said in his February 1 Franklin Times column: In all fairness,
however, we have to point out that Rep. Allen is credited with winning approval
of a $500,000 state DOT grant for a bicycle path in Franklin County and a theme
park in Halifax County - neither of which will bring any jobs or tax revenues.
Harker also said that health care is a major issue and he will work to try to
stop the rising costs.
Dave Harker will be officially opening his campaign headquarters on Nash Street
soon and we will be providing more information about his campaign soon. Stay
tuned!
