Candidates, Officials: No Grant Money for Personal Benefit
Edwards
Blasts 'Grant-Hungry' Democrats
Republican
candidates for commissioner and the legislature are pledging to not accept any
grant money for their personal benefit or for their friends. This is due in
part to a Democratic commissioner who is receiving $100,000 in tax-paid grant
money for her restaurant.
Republican commissioners Harry Foy, Don Lancaster and Bob Winters have pledged
to not accept any grant money. Commission candidates Stephen Phillips,
Lancaster, Jeremy Neal, Ken Gregorius and legislative candidates Keith Shearon
for state House and Chuck Stires for state Senate have pledged to accept no
grant money. Dan Mansell, candidate for Congress, also refuses grant money.
"No wonder the Democrats keep voting for tax increases, because they want to
line their pockets with our money. The days of tax and spend liberals taking a
million tax-dollars to protect snails and mussels or for opening a restaurant
must stop," said Chairman John Edwards. "I applaud all of our Republican
candidates and commissioners for looking out for the taxpayers. When elected our
candidates will put a stop to higher taxes, wasteful spending and will end the
Democrats' grant-hungry trough."
