It's bad enough that Democratic Sen. Doug Berger and Rep. Lucy Allen want to waste more of our tax dollars with a grant workshop to give out more tax-paid grants.

But get this. The Rev. Curtis E. Gatewood, one of the presenters at the grant workshop, boycotted Santa Claus because he said it was "slavery to commercialism."

We encourage everyone to attend this grant workshop (and bring your Cocoa Puffs) and ask some of the following questions to Berger, Allen and Rev. Gatewood:

1. As a taxpayer, can I apply for tax-paid grant money to pay for my high taxes?

2. If I apply for the grant money, will the Rev. Gatewood ban Santa from coming down my chimney?

3. Can I get about $50,000 and do whatever I please and not pay it back?

Contact Berger, Allen or Gatewood if you plan to attend:

From the March 22, 2008 Franklin Times:

Local ministers answer question: Should African Americans boycott Santa?.

Recently, a minister in Durham, N.C. the Rev. Curtis E. Gatewood, who is also president of the Durham NAACP branch called for a boycott of "Santa Claus."

The minister along with about 60 members of the Durham NACP are urging Black parents to celebrate Christmas for what it really represents, "the birth of Christ" rather than spend hundreds of dollars on expensive gifts, an act he calls "slavery to commercialism."

According to the minister, nationally, about $400 billion of the money earned by retailers this time of year, comes from the African-American community.
