Staff Reports A domestic dispute between the Franklin County Commission chairman and his wife did not result in charges but did generate an incident report. Franklin County Deputy B.J. Oakley responded to a domestic call at 129 George Leonard Road at about 7 p.m. on June 30. According to the report, Oakley spoke with Commissioner Sidney Dunston about an argument he was having with his wife. “I spoke with Mr. Dunston, and he stated that his wife was accusing him of things that were not true ... he was very upset with his wife,” according to the report. Mrs. Dunston told authorities that her husband pushed her against a wall. Oakley reported there were no marks on Mrs. Dunston. After Oakley advised the couple, Sidney Dunston left the home for the night “to let things calm down,” Oakley’s report stated. “They were yelling back and forth between each other. They were both advised of what they could do,” according to the report. There were no charges filed. There was no indication through a court records search that any similar activity had occurred at the home involving Dunston. It was not immediately known if deputies had responded to the address before. County Attorney Darnell Batton plans to review a 911 call about the incident as part of county procedure before releasing it to The Franklin Times. The review is potentially to exclude any information that may not be covered under the state’s Public Records Law, he said. Contents of 911 calls are public record under state law. Information that identifies the caller, victim or witness may be withheld temporarily if a threat is imposed by the release. Dunston declined comment. |
