The Clerk of Court's Race:
Frances
Hunt Out;
Is Hunter 'Prying and Spying'?
In a stunning new development,
Frances Hunt has decided not to run for clerk of court which leaves
Dan Vinson as the only candidate
who turned in petitions to get his name on the ballot today. Hunt says she had
about 1,500 signatures, which is more than the 1,200 needed, but that with two
unaffiliateds on the ballot it would split votes.
Democrat Alice Faye Hunter, who is the current clerk of court and is running
for reelection this fall, has requested the names on the petitions. Why Hunter
wants the names remains to be seen, but some refused to sign their names on
the petitions in fear of retaliation from the Democrat Party machine.
Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if Hunter spends more time scouring
the names than doing her job on the taxpayers' dime. Will she be spying and
prying on those who signed the petitions? Stay tuned.

Below is the letter Frances Hunt sent to the Franklin Times today:

From: Frances Hunt
Ref: Petitions for Clerk of Court
I would like thank everyone that took the time to sign my petitions. I enjoyed meeting and talking with all of you.
I would also like to thank the people that said they would be glad to vote for me, but could not sign my petition for fear of losing their jobs or business.
Unfortunately, I was unaware, until very recently, that there was someone else considering filing to run for office as an unaffiliated candidate. If I were to file, this would only split votes. This, in my opinion, would defeat the purpose. Therefore, I will not be submitting my petitions to get my name on the ballot at this time.
I plan to talk with the public and obtain their opinions as to whether this other candidate can successfully get elected. If not, I will then consider running for the office as a write in candidate.
Note: Qualifications for a Write In Candidate: Petitions must be filed on or before noon on the 90th day before the general election and must be signed by 100.
Thank you,
Frances Hunt
